Origin of Grapes:  Barossa Valley

Maturation Second use French and American oak hogsheads for 6 months

Analysis Alcohol 14.8% : Acid 6.1 g/l : pH 3.70 : Residual Sugar 2.7 g/l

Background on the experimentation: Had to have a go with this variety because it maintains acidity and structure in dry hot conditions. This is a young vineyards’ second crop and it expresses the strength expected of this variety.

Winemaking:  Crushed and seeded with AWRI yeast culture and fermented for 5-6 days. All second or third use hogshead maturation for a period of 15 months, bottled in July. No filtration or fining.

Vintage Comments: A wet winter with above average temperatures in October and December led to early ripening. Warm dry conditions through to harvest, combined with low yields led to strong varietal expression in this Montepulciano.

Tasting NoteDeep purple red in colour, the wine has lovely spicy plum and bay leaf aromas and these lead to a rich chunky palate stacked with flavour and balanced nicely with acidity and tannin. A wine “for the boys” who like them big!
