Gibson Bin 60 is a unique and special bottling to celebrate my 60th Birthday in 2011. It is a barrel selection of the Classic Aussie blend which has stood the test of time and one of the best wines I have ever produced.
The vintage was a season of 2 parts…being moderate during fruit flavour development and extremely hot later in harvest, turning out really well for those cooler sub-districts like Eden Valley and God’s Hill at Lyndoch. The spur pruned Barossa Cabernet Sauvignon (60%) has a reliable record of good varietal expression over many years. The rod and spur pruned Shiraz (40%) from 50-year-old Eden Valley vines produced minute quantities of concentrated small berries with vibrant colour and intense flavours. Low yields of 2 tonne / acre.
The Bin 60 is vibrant opaque, almost black in colour with purple hues. A lifted very complex nose of molasses and ripe berry leads on to herb & spice aromas. The palate is lively, bright & powerful with charming fruit sweetness and finishes beautifully dry with lingering vinosity. A harmonious symphony of entertainment which I hope you enjoy at the best of occasions.
