The exciting finesse of a complex Merlot is worth striving for. Each year small parcels of specially selected wine is identified for its exceptional varietal expression and quality. These premium wines offer increased complexity of character and can benefit from extended cellaring.
Winter rains commenced an exceptional growing season. Temperatures in October and November were well above average…enhancing rapid development. Mild, cool and dry ripening conditions in March combined with low yields led to good varietal expression in Merlot. The expression of classic perfume & cherry varietal flavours in Barossa Merlot was achieved this year.
A multiplicity of combinations of extraction, oak, maceration and sites were used. New French oak hogsheads were predominantly used for maturation.
Very deep purple colour with red tones lead to intense complex aromas of sweet spices, violets and plums. The palate delivers a richly flavoured and complex, dark cherry, plum and chocolate laden mid palate with chewy tannin and lingering anise & dark chocolate flavours on the finish. This wine shows impressive structure enabling this wine to age & really develop complexity.
