Had to have a go with this variety because I have tried so many good ones. This vineyard was created after grafting on older vines of a white variety and it expresses the supple richness expected of the variety
Early temperatures in October and December were well above average…enhancing rapid development. January was mild thank goodness. Mild dry ripening conditions later combined with low yields led to good varietal expression in Tempranillo despite very early ripening.
Crushed and seeded with AWRI yeast culture and fermented for 5-6 days. All second or third use hogshead storage for a period of 12months & bottled in March. No filtration or fining.
Soft red berry and blue fruits lead to pleasing aromas of cedar and spice, the wine approachable and round. The juicy palate is balanced with dry, chocolate like tannins making this Tempranillo a great food wine.
